watercolor paintings

I have a bit of thing for watercolor paintings. There’s something about their whispery delicacy that never fails to draws me in. You already know of one watercolor illustration I’ve purchased and love, but I haven’t shared the two below I also bought last year.

The addition of watercolors paintings to my walls won’t stop there. Here’s some others I plan on purchasing too.

What about you? Got any favorite watercolor prints?

Polished, concrete floors

J and I live in a condo located in downtown Toronto. A condo that has exposed concrete throughout most rooms – ceilings (all rooms minus bathrooms), one wall in 2nd bedroom (this will be my office) and a column (in main living space). Some think it’s cold, other’s think it’s awesome. We lean towards the latter.

Late last year, J and I (okay, J while I tweeted everything) ripped up the carpet in our two bedrooms to expose the concrete floors. This was something we intended to do this year, but the decision to rip up the carpets without an immediate next step was made randomly on a Friday night. My lack of hesitation had nothing to do with the beer or two I was enjoying I’m sure. ;)

Thankfully, we didn’t regret our impromptu decision. Sure, we’ve been living with unfinished floors for a few months, but who cares? We were able to get a sense of what our space will feel like with exposed concrete floors and we like it. Phew! In fact, we’ll be exposing the concrete throughout the whole condo, including in the bathrooms. Talk about concrete city huh?

Of course, we are going to get them sanded and polished. But first we need to rip up the horrid laminate floors in the main living space along with the tiles in the bathrooms. We’re leaving this to the professionals and so we’ll be temporarily moving out early March while our contractor comes in to do the demo. Then my friends, the polishing of the concrete will begin.

This isn’t the only major renovation we have planned for the condo. We are pretty much stripping it down to the bare bones. I’ll share more on this later but fun times are ahead, hopefully with few headaches.

In the meantime, I’ve been gathering some inspiration. I can’t deny that lots of concrete within a home can look cold, but we plan on off-setting all the grey with lots of white along with some bright, bold colors.

What do you think? Like the polished concrete floor look?

Let’s talk business cards

Yesterday I began thinking about my business cards for dellie. I want something extremely simple yet one that has a little something something. Here’s a quick mock-up I did.

Dellie Business Cards

Right now I’m thinking this…

A black back with a chevron pattern. Where you see the slight color variation in the pattern indicates where I’d like to do some spot UV printing or foil stamping. Not only will it add some subtle texture to the card but visually it’ll take things up a notch.

For the front, I’m considering keeping it white with black text and either orange or black edge printing. Or, another option I’m mulling over is using black card stock and then having white text either silk-screened or foil stamped onto it. Again, I’d go with some edge printing in either orange or white.

1 // 2 // 3

Oh the options. Of course, all of these options come at price. With each printing technique you add, the cost obviously goes up but I’m thinking for my business cards, it will be worth it.

What direction would you go in? I’m torn.

dellie + a tagline

I’m beginning to flush out all the printed material for dellie and would like to settle on a tagline. As I’m outsourcing most of the printing, it’s not something I can change on a whim unless I’m okay with having a whack of printed material with a different tagline. I’m not.

Here’s two I’m currently considering:

What I like about paper + design is I feel it can be easily dropped whenever I don’t see a need to use it on certain materials. Case in point, some products labels I have been experimenting with.

With design co. I feel as though it’s an extension of the dellie name and therefore needs to be always used for consistency. Perhaps it’s just me, but I feel as though the company would be dellie design co. not dellie. Make sense? Perhaps I’m over thinking this?

I don’t intend for dellie to be only paper goods and so I do think both of these taglines work.

What do you think?

Let’s go grocery shopping (kinda)

I’m currently redesigning my grocery notepad for dellie and I need your input. Those that are familiar with my notepad will know that there’s a small column listing out a few grocery items we tend to purchase on a regular basis.

While I’ve already gotten some great suggestions on Facebook today, I thought I’d pose the question here too. The more input the better! So, here’s my question:

What grocery/household items do you find yourself buying on a weekly basis?

Artwork Copyright: Georgina Luck

I’m not talking about produce and meat as these can change weekly depending on what we have planned for dinner. I’m talking about items that can fall into the following categories:

Oils/sauces, condiments, dairy goods, snacks, beverages…

Feel free to also suggest other categories. While the space is limited (most of the pad is allotted for you to fill it out based on your needs), I’m not adverse to changing categories if it’s more helpful to you.

Thanks in advance for your input!

I know you can relate

I’m sure many of you can relate to this image. I sure can! So, today I will refrain from having 10+ twitter tabs open and all the other online distractions I easily succumb too. Instead, I will work on my desire to succeed.

Make it a productive day folks! Happy Monday!

Bunny Rage

Yah, I may have two dogs to protect me but really it’s Stella you want to watch out for. Mess with her and she’ll likely release some bunny rage on your ass.
